In March this year the forward spoke of his desire to play for Bafana Bafana, ”It may sound strange that someone who has never been to South Africa states that they want to represent the South African national team. But I love football and Bafana Bafana have a great history”.

Veldwijk also added that he did not know the words to the South African national anthem, ”Once I am called up I will improve my knowledge and learn the national anthem.”

Veldwijk currently plays for K.V Kortrijk in the Belgian Pro League having previously had spells at Excelsior Rotterdam and PEC Zwolle (On loan) in the Netherlands and Nottingham Forest in England.
