Utrecht defeated Heracles Almelo 1-0 on Sunday thanks to an injury-time own goal by Mats Knoester.

Utrecht were the better side from the start but Anastasios Douvikas had a shot blocked, while Simon Gustafson was denied by Janis Blaswich.

Five minutes before the break, Utrecht was awarded a penalty for a foul on Remco Balk, but Gustafson saw his penalty saved by Blaswich.

In the second half, Balk hit the post, while Bart Ramselaar also missed a good chance as Utrecht created plenty of chances without finding the net.

The game was heading for a 0-0 draw but in the 93rd minute, Adrian Dalmau’s header was diverted into his own net by Mats Knoester and Utrecht snatched the victory.

Utrecht are fourth after the win while Heracles is 14th.
