Van Persie is expected to depart Manchester United this summer and even admitted last week that he would consider his options after falling out of favour with coach Louis van Gaal towards the end of the season.
After playing an hour with Netherlands on Friday in the 4-3 loss to USA, Van Persie was pictured in Rome airport which sparked rumours that he could be heading to conclude a deal with Lazio.
However speaking to Corriero dello Sport, Lazio president Claudio Lotito slammed the rumours as nonsense.
Lotito said, “Do not you get it yet? It is not true, nonsense. Rumors. That’s it, no more, ”
Like the rest of the Netherlands squad, Van Persie has been given the weekend off, so his presence in Rome is probably just a family holiday.
