Lijnders left his position as an assistant to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool to take charge of NEC Nijmegen, who currently sit third in the Eerste Divisie.
Lijnders said ahead of his first game in charge, ”I want to promote the quality of my players at NEC Nijmegen and that the manner in which we play forces my players to take the initiative in games.
”We must start games with the attention to attack and get a grip on games and create many chances in front of goal.”
The 34-year-old also revealed that Klopp was supportive of his decision to take over NEC, “I spoke with Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp about my decision to become NEC Nijmegen and he supported my decision and he has a lot of confidence in me.”
