According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are at the front of the queue to sign Newcastle United’s Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

wijnaldum nufcThe midfielder is widely expected to leave Newcastle United this summer after the club’s relegation and a number of Premier League sides have been linked including Tottenham, Everton and Southampton.

However, according to The Telegraph it is Liverpool who are frontrunners to sign the Dutch international and they are hoping to strike a deal this week as coach Jurgen Klopp hopes to strengthen his attacking options.

Newcastle United signed the midfielder from PSV last summer for £14.5 million and are determined not to let their top scorer leave on the cheap. They have slapped a £27 million price tag on the 25-year-old, but Liverpool are hoping to negotiate a deal closer to £20 million. They hope to wrap up a deal quickly so Wijnaldum can join Liverpool on their trip to America, which begins on Thursday.
