PSV Eindhoven have moved to the top of the Eredivisie after a 7-1 win over 10-man Utrecht. Jurgen Locadia was the star man with four goals.

Phillip Cocu decided to tweak with his formation going into the game with PSV lining up in a 5-3-2 formation. Hirving Lozano came back into the line-up along with Derrick Luckassen, while Steven Bergwijn dropped to the bench.

Utrecht made the brighter start to the game and Cyriel Dessers was inches away from getting the opener, but his shot came crashing down off the bar.

On 15 minutes, PSV took the lead against the run of play with David Jensen parrying Lozano’s shot into the path of Jurgen Locadia, who slotted the ball into the empty net. The lead only lasted five minutes before Utrecht were awarded a penalty for a foul on Jean-Cristophe Bahebeck by Isimat-Mirin. Zakaria Labyad made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-1.

Both sides missed several chances before PSV regained their lead on 40 minutes through Lozano who slotted in Locadia’s cross from close range.

Dessers missed an excellent chance to equalise early in the second half and PSV punished them by adding a third on 49 minutes. Locadia beat the Utrecht offside trap and his shot was deflected onto the bar and into the net by Jensen.  With twenty minutes left, Locadia completed his hat-trick, beating the offside trap again before finding the bottom corner with a lovely finish.

Utrecht then fell apart in the final ten minutes, firstly Joshua Brenet was brought down in the box and Marco van Ginkel slotted in the penalty to make it 5-1 to the visitors. Moments later, Giovanni Troupee brought down Lozano, earning himself a red card and PSV a second penalty, which was netted by Locadia for his fourth goal. Then in the final minute, substitute Steven Bergwijn waltzed through four challenges, rounded Jensen and slotted in a seventh goal.

A horrid day for the hosts, but a great one for PSV who move top of the table.
