PSV Eindhoven suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday as Heerenveen eased to a 2-0 victory in the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

PSV have struggled in Friesland recently and within five minutes they found themselves 2-0 down to a confident Heerenveen. Arber Zenli opened the scoring with a stunning strike from distance before Denzel Dumfries crossed for Reza Ghoochannejhad to make it 2-0 shortly after.

The game was open after the lightning start with Jurgen Locadia going close twice for PSV, while Zeneli fired just wide at the other end. As the half wore on, PSV became more and more frustrated and that resulted with Hirving Lozano seeing a straight red card for a late challenge on Dumfries.

With a man extra, Heerenveen were comfortable in the second half and should have added further goals with Morten Thorsby and Martin Odegaard both going close on several occasions. In the 75th minute, Nicolas Isimat-Mirin conceded a penalty, but Jeroen Zoet saved Reza’s poor spot-kick.

A commanding performance by Heerenveen and a thoroughly deserved three points, while PSV need to recover ahead of next week’s showdown with Feyenoord.
