de jong 1aBorussia Monchengladbach have enjoyed a decent start to the Bundesliga season, and currently sit 4th in the table, but De Jong has been forced to watch from the sidelines.

The 23 year old has only appeared four times this campaign, with all four coming from the bench, and has not scored a league goal for the club since April.

Monchengladbach lost a practice game with Mainz on Saturday 2-1, with De Jong missing two guilt edged chances, and afterwards spoke of his lack of confidence.

De Jong told Bild”I had to finish at least a chance That is my job and responsibility, being sharp when you play so little is quite difficult to do. Natural confidence is hard for me.”

However the former Twente man is determined to win his place in the starting eleven back, “Anyone who knows me knows that I will score again soon. I want to be a starting player soon.”

In the summer Ajax were linked with a move to bring De Jong back to Netherlands, but the player ruled out any return to the Eredivisie.
