van ginkel aAfter seeing off Scotland 4-0 on Thursday, Albert Stuivenberg made one change to his winning Oranje side, as Chelsea’s Nathan Ake made his debut for the U21’s replacing left back Dico Koppers.

On 18 minutes the young Dutch side were awarded a soft penalty, which Marco van Ginkel stepped up and slotted into the net to open the scoring.

Netherlands failed to create any further chances in the first half, and at half time the quiet Memphis Depay was replaced by Ajax’s Lesley de Sa.

In the second half, Marco van Ginkel headed a chance wide, while Mike van der Hoorn, and Jurgen Locadia failed to connect to a free kick, as they got in each others way.

Luxembourg were unable to trouble the Dutch defence, and Netherlands easily saw out their 1-0 lead, but would liked to have won by a bigger margin, which their possession deserved.

Next month, Netherlands travel to Georgia, who could join them at the top of the table if they can see off Slovakia in the groups other match this round.
