Former Netherlands international Hedwiges Maduro has been named as the new head coach of Almere City’s U21 side.

The former midfielder is still working on his coaching badges and sees the role with Jong Almere City as a great first opportunity.

Maduro told the club’s website, “This is a very nice challenge for me. I was born in Almere and have a good relationship with the city and the club. In recent months I have seen a lot of talent with ambition running around in the youth academy of Almere City FC.”

The 35-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the reserves of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie side. However, he will remain an assistant with Netherlands U18’s and an analyst with Fox Sports as well.
