Maher’s contract with PSV ended in the summer but they agreed to dissolve it in order for the midfielder to join FC Twente on a deal until the end of this season.
The 24-year-old is now reunited in Enschede with head-coach Gertjan Verbeek, who gave Maher his debut when at AZ Alkmaar.
Speaking to the Twente website, Maher stated he aims to steer the club away from the drop zone, where they currently sit. He said, “I immediately felt good and it is a club with a lot of charisma and supporters who live for football. FC Twente is now in a position where it does not belong. I would like to help us climb up.”
Maher joined PSV Eindhoven from AZ Alkmaar in 2013 but the midfielder failed to live up to expectations in Eindhoven. He made 106 appearances for PSV, scoring 17 goals and contributing 13 assists. He spent time on loan with Turkish side Osmanlispor last season and has only appeared once in the Eredivisie so far this season.
