PSV Eindhoven midfielder Adam Maher has spoken about Ajax’s attempts to sign him in the summer.

Before swapping AZ Alkmaar for PSV in the summer, the young midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Ajax, a club he is reportedly a lifelong fan of.
When Maher’s move to Ajax did not come off, the clubs director claimed it was because AZ Alkmaar’s asking price was too high for the club to pay.
Now Maher himself has come out, and stated that he believes Marc Overmars has only said this because he wants to keep Ajax fans happy.
He told Voetbal International, “I think he said something to keep supporters of Ajax quiet or he gets them all on the roof,”
“Overmars is for himself, so it works. In the conversation I had with him, he made clear that he wanted to have me. ”
Maher is still adjusting to life at PSV, and has come under scrutiny from some supporters for a number of below par performances so far this season.
