The midfielder’s contract with PSV Eindhoven was dissolved allowing Maher to join FC Twente on a free and be reunited with Gertjan Verbeek, who handed him his debut at AZ Alkmaar.

Maher said, ”Gertjan Verbeek is one of the reasons I decided to sign for FC Twente but also if you look at the club it has always shown in the past that it is a great club.

”In order to push up the Eredivisie, we need everybody. Not just players but backroom staff too and we will do everything we can to climb up the Eredivisie table.

”Gertjan Verbeek has always given me confidence and he has always been clear with what he wants from me and I am satisfied with that.

”I will admit that the best period of my career so far was at AZ Alkmaar.

”I do not regret my choice to join PSV Eindhoven. I experienced a lot there. I went there at the age of18.. I won two Eredivisie titles and two Johan Cruyff shields.

”I want to show my worth at FC Twente and help them climb up the Eredivisie league table. We have to pick up points in the second half of the season.”
