PSV Eindhoven remain locked on the same points as Ajax at the top of the Eredivisie after a 4-1 win over VVV Venlo.

Before the game, PSV confirmed that Mohamed Ihattaren’s father had passed away through illness. Both teams held a minute silence before the game and the home crowd clapped for their young star in the 23rd minute.

PSV dominated the first half but could not find the opening goal with Denzel Dumfries, Bruma and Donyell Malen all going close.

Finally in the 61st minute, Steven Bergwijn broke the deadlock with a fine finish after turning his marker. The winger then crossed for Dumfries to head in a second four minutes later.

In the 70th minute, Cody Gakpo slipped the ball through for Malen to slot in a third for the hosts.

VVV pulled one back through Tobias Pachonik’s excellent strike but four minutes before the end, Malen slotted in after good work from Bergwijn to seal the victory. His double takes the striker to ten goals in nine Eredivisie games.

PSV remain second on goal difference to Ajax while VVV are 13th.
