Donyell Malen hopes Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal watched Borussia Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich on Saturday evening.

Malen was missing during the most recent Netherlands internationals due to an injury but he has now started Borussia Dortmund’s last three matches.

On Saturday, Malen caused plenty of problems for Bayern Munich’s defence and after the game, he told Viaplay that he hoped Van Gaal was watching.

He said he has been in contact with the Oranje boss, “Yes, I spoke to him. Also with the doctor, about how things are going. Now I’m fit again, so I hope he watched today. You know that with the trainer it is always important that you play and that you make minutes.”

Malen is happy he is now playing for Dortmund regularly, “Can I call myself a starting player? That’s what it looks like now. I am pain-free and injury-free again, it has been a while. This was my third game and I also made quite a few minutes. I am happy with that. Play an entire match? I’m on my way.”
