Donyell Malen scored a 95th minute equaliser as PSV came from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw at Heerenveen. For the second week in a row the leaders have dropped points and Ajax can close the gap to four points on Sunday.

Last weekend PSV had to battle back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw at Utrecht and in Friesland they found themselves in the same position after 25 minutes.

The league leaders made a poor start with Mitchell van Bergen poor effort deflecting off Nick Viergever before rolling past Jeroen Zoet to give the hosts the lead in the third minute. PSV pushed forward looking for an equaliser, but Michel Vlap slotted in a second for Heerenveen in the 25th minute after a scramble in the box.

PSV had the ball in the net moments later through Daniel Schwaab but a foul on Warner Hahn brought the play back. Steven Bergwijn then skied a golden opportunity before he smashed the ball against the post. The woodwork then denied Gaston Pereiro as PSV went into the break 2-0 down for the second week running.

Mark van Bommel brought Cody Gakpo on for Hirving Lozano at the break as PSV looked for a way back. Two minutes into the second half, Denzel Dumfries slotted the ball into the net but the right-back was in an offside position and VAR chalked the goal off.

Just before the hour mark, PSV finally pulled one back with Pereiro curling an excellent free-kick into the bottom corner. A minute later Bergwijn was denied the equaliser by Hahn, who got to his deflected strike with his fingertips.

With fifteen minutes left, Dennis Johnsen almost settled the game for Heerenveen but his deflected effort crashed down off the bar.

PSV pushed for an equaliser but Heerenveen held on until the last seconds of the game when substitute Donyell Malen wriggled free in the box before slotting the ball past Hahn.

For the second week in a row, PSV prevented a defeat but they have now dropped another two points. They will only be four points ahead of Ajax should they beat NAC on Sunday and next weekend, Van Bommel’s side face Feyenoord. Heerenveen rise to 13th.
