The centre-back has been excellent so far this season for Southampton and is regarded by many as the best defender in the Premier League.
Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Everton have all been linked with van Dijk, but it appears that Manchester City have moved to the front of the queue. The Daily Mail is reporting that discreet talks have been held between City and Southampton and that a £50 million deal could be agreed next month.
Pep Guardiola is keen to bolster his leaky defence and reportedly sees the former Groningen and Celtic star as the perfect addition to his side.
