According to reports in Italy Manchester United failed in their attempt to sign Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman in January.

strootman dnkfnskvnkjvsManchester United have been long admirers of Strootman and tried to sign him in the summer before he left PSV Eindhoven for Rome in a deal worth €17 million.

La Gazetta dello sport are reporting that Roma turned down a €25 million bid from the Premier League champions for the Dutch midfielder in January. Roma have been delighted by the 23-year-olds performances so far this season, and are believed to have told United boss David Moyes that they will not consider anything less than €40 million.

Strootman has made 19 appearances for Roma in Serie A, with the midfielder netting five goals and contributing five assists for the side that currently sit 2nd.

Louis van Gaal has earmarked Strootman as one of the players guaranteed a place in his Netherlands squad for this summers World Cup in Brazil.
