According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are hoping to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.

Barcelona has been favourites to sign the 19-year-old for weeks but talks are said to have stalled on a deal.

That has given hope to Manchester United, with The Telegraph reporting that the Premier League giants are hoping to sign the Dutch international as part of their rebuilding ahead of a title challenge.

Sources close to the defender have reportedly told the English Newspaper that De Ligt will not rule out a move to Manchester and is charmed by the idea of being a poster boy for the club.

However, Manchester United do not have Champions League football to offer De Ligt and will face competition from Liverpool and Manchester City among others.
