Real Madrid have been linked with Van de Beek since last summer and have already agreed a fee with Ajax for the Dutch international.
A move last summer was on the cards but Real Madrid could not sell Gareth Bale or James Rodriguez to raise the funds.
According to MARCA, who cites reports in the Netherlands, Manchester United are still in the race to sign the 22-year-old, but can only get him if Real Madrid decide not to push ahead in the summer.
Should Real Madrid look at other targets then Manchester United will look to swoop.
