The 24-year-old told the press conference that the presence of his former Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal at the club was a major factor in deciding to move to Manchester.

Blind said, “It was really important for me”

“He gave me a lot of trust in the World Cup and during the qualifying games for the Dutch team. I learnt a lot from him and i hope to learn more.

On what type of coach Van Gaal is, he added, “He’s very strict, direct with what he wants, the style of the team, the players have to do exactly what is best to win.”

“During the World Cup, I mentioned every game how he reads the game so well,”

“His predictions about the game always came true in every game. That’s how we are able to prepare so well for every game.

Capable of playing in both defence or midfield, the versatile Blind does not care what position Van Gaal uses him in, “I can play as a defender and as a midfielder. I want to play and where I play is up to the coach and I will try do my best.”
