According to De Telegraaf, Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

A €50 million deal has been agreed between Real Madrid and Ajax for the 23-year-old, with the medical and final yes being the only things stopping the deal being complete.

However, due to the corona virus outbreak, Real Madrid have gone cold on the deal as their finances have taken a hit. They are now dragging their feet on whether to complete the transfer.

Manchester United now senses an opportunity to hijack the deal and they contacted Ajax this week to discuss the Netherlands international.

Ajax are becoming impatient with Real Madrid and are open to selling van de Beek to Manchester United if they receive a good fee. Van de Beek also wants clarity on his future, and could accept a Premier League move, despite already saying yes to Real Madrid.

Edwin van der Sar’s good relationship with Manchester United could be key in getting the deal done.
