So far this season, PSV have been a shadow of the side that has won back to back Eredivisie titles with the club currently sitting third in the league and out of Europe and the KNVB Cup.
Speaking to NOS after the 0-0 draw at home to Rostov on Tuesday, Marcel Brands stated that he feels that this current PSV Eindhoven side is not fulfilling expectations.
He said, ”We are disappointed. It was a tense game until the last minute and of course you always hope that the goal will come. We are aware of the consequences and it hurts.
”The consequence of our failure to progress in Europe effects our ambitions that we had at the start of the season. We wanted to win the KNVB Cup and progress in Europe too and they are two objectives in which we have failed. We are also aware of the financial consequences too. What hurts the most is the sporting failure.
”I do not believe that you can attach one component as to the reason that things are not going well at the moment. It is strange for us as a club to accept. We have to now look at ourselves and accept that we did not fulfill the expectations that people expect of PSV Eindhoven. I believe that the new players in the squad provided a good energy together with the current players in the squad. But it is clear that we have not maintained our level of the last 2 seasons.
”The media talks and writes and eventually this ends up in the head of the players and that is logical and we hope to turn it around with positive results in the coming weeks.
”We also are aware of the supporters expectations and their frustration and we now need their support.”
