Mario Been has been announced as the new manager of Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia.

He has signed a one-year deal with the club who have Dutch players Boy Waterman and Lorenzo Ebecilio in their squad. APOEL Nicosia will also play the qualifying rounds for next season’s Champions League.

Mario Been was recently assistant manager to Dick Advocaat at Fenerbahce and he previously managed Excelsior Rotterdam, NEC Nijmegen, Feyenoord and Genk where he won the Belgian Cup in 2013.

Upon news breaking of his appointment, Mario Been stated ‘ It’s great to become head coach again. APOEL Nicosia are a club that have always played in Europe and they were fairly successful when they played in European competition.”
