Hi lads,
Thanks again for these podcasts.
I don’t do the twitter, facebook social media things so give you my thoughts here.
The combination of Ake, Van Dijk, De Light (with De Vrij as back up) as a centre 3 I think has incredible potential and can’t see why anyone would go past it. And as with all good CB combination,s they need time to develop and get experience, esp the 3CB combination.
Its frustrating to think anything else is considered.
Is this worth developing if the system is naturally going to gravitate back to a 4-3-3, ie 2CB?
I’d argue yes, being that they would be better set up to go to a 3-4-3, which for me is a better, modern version of the Cruyff 4-3-3; which we first saw used to great effect with that great Barca side.
We’re a long way from that Barca side, but the foundation is there with those 3 and De Jong.
On DeJong, I’d be interested on your thoughts on where he should go after Ajax. I am disappointed to hear reports Barca have the option to match any price to ensure they get him.
For me its not about what club he goes to but which coach. And clearly that has to be Guardiola. If there’s anyone who will get the best out of him, but more importantly, develop his reading and understanding of the game then its Pep.
And surely the lineage of Johan – Pep – Frenkie is what lovers of total football all want to see?
Michael Bell called the 3-0 result in Oranje’s favour. Very impressive!
