Steijn lauded his team’s spirit and hard work during their first game of the season.
He said, ”I believe that we thoroughly deserved to win today. We created the best chances and we scored at a good time.
”In the second half we came racing out of the block hitting the bar, post and then scoring. I believe my team worked really hard tonight and we played a fantastic first game in the Eredivisie.
”We were opportunistic and convincing in our play tonight which is what I demand of my players. I really enjoyed the way we played especially in the second half.
”We have built a fantastic team during the last 3 years here at VVV Venlo. We work together with one another and we play as a team and view every game as a final which I what I said to my players before the game, tonight we played the 1st of 34 finals this season.
”We are fully aware of our resources we have. We know that we have a very inexperienced team at the highest level with collectively only 82 games in the Eredivisie between the whole team before tonight. We therefore have to compensate by having a great team spirit.”
