Heracles Almelo came out on top of the Twente Derby with a 3-2 victory at FC Twente.

FC Twente opened the scoring in the fifth minute when an error from Heracles defender Lennart Czyborra left Aitor Cantalapiedra completely free in front of goal and he calmly slotted in the opener.

The hosts thought they had made it 2-0 when Javier Espinosa found the net but after a lengthy VAR delay, the goal was disallowed for a handball.

Four minutes before the break, Heracles equalised when Robin Pröpper’s clearance set Cyriel Dessers free on goal and the attacker calmly slotted in the equaliser. In first half stoppage time, the home crowd was silenced as Heracles took the lead through a lovely Mauro Junior volley.

Twente searched for the equaliser in the second half but it never came and eventually Mauro Junior headed in a third for Heracles with ten minutes to go.

Emil Berggreen pulled one back with a header in stoppage time but that proved to be nothing but a consolation as Heracles held on for the victory.

Heracles have now won three games in a row and sit fifth while Twente remains in third.
