Memphis Depay scored his first goal of 2019 and also provided an assist as Lyon defeated Caen 3-1 in the French Cup quarter-finals.

There was more criticism for Memphis, who hadn’t scored since November, at the weekend when he missed a penalty in their defeat at Monaco.

However, Lyon boss Bruno Genesio named Memphis in the starting line-up against Caen and he played a role in the opening goal. In the 27th minute, his cross was headed into the net by Jason Denayer.

Maxwell Cornet made it 2-0 just after the break but then Caen pulled one back through Casimir Ninga.

Memphis was then brought down outside the box in the 83rd minute, which earned Alexander Dijku a red card. Memphis took the free-kick himself and saw it disappear into the net via a deflection.

A massive relief for Memphis, who nets his first goal since scoring for Netherlands against France on November 16th. He will now be hoping that his drought is over and his form recovers in time for Netherlanda Euro qualifiers at the end of March.
