The winger appears to have no future at Old Trafford after barely featuring since Mourinho took charge in the summer. A loan move away in January has been rumoured, but Memphis will now have to hope for a permanent transfer with Mourinho stating that Sam Johnstone will be the only one allowed to leave temporarily in January.
Mourinho told his press conference, “Sam Johnstone is the only player that I allow to go on loan because he doesn’t play one single minute, he needs to play.
“We have a young goalkeeper in Joel Pereira, a goalkeeper that played many minutes in the last six months. For the development of both, Joel played six months in the Portuguese Premier League, now it’s time for Sam to play six months and that’s the only loan move we are going to do.
“As I said before, if a player is not having lots of minutes, and if a player really wants to leave, we have no right to stop the player to leave, if the conditions are our conditions and until this moment, we have not received one single offer that we are going to accept.”
Memphis was signed from PSV Eindhoven for £30 million, but Manchester United are believed to be willing to allow him to leave for halve of that fee. Everton have been strongly linked, along with Roma, Sevilla, Nice, Porto and Tottenham
