Memphis Depay is adamant that he would have been fit enough to play for the Netherlands if the European Championships would have taken place this summer.

The forward suffered a cruciate injury playing for Lyon last December, and at the time it was feared that he would miss the Euros.

Memphis worked hard with his recovery, and last week he was given the all clear to rejoin Lyon’s training. He would have been fit in time for the Euros, but they have now been pushed back a year because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to Beau on RTL4, Memphis said, “I would have been there, I would have been ready. Anyway, next year is next year. When the European Championship was cancelled, I continued on the same footing and did not stop training. Hopefully that will be good now, because important matches are still coming for Lyon.”

Lyon are still involved in the Champions League and have a second-leg against Juventus to come when the competition resumes. However, the French Ligue 1 has been ended, although Lyon are among the clubs trying to reverse the decision and finish the season.
