The winger has endured a difficult season so far, but he was in excellent form on Thursday as Manchester United overturned a 3-1 deficit to defeat Midtjylland 6-3 on aggregate.
With Manchester United trailing on the night, Memphis forced the equaliser as a great run to the byline ended with Nikolay Bodurov diverting the ball into his own net. Throughout the night Memphis gave right back Andre Zomer a torrid time, highlighted by a breathtaking piece of skill which you can see below, and the Dane’s night ended prematurely with a foul on the winger earning him a second yellow card late on.
Memphis then capped an excellent performance with a goal in the final minute as he cut in from the left before unleashing a powerful strike into the bottom corner.
Manchester United fans will be hoping the Dutchman can take this form into the Premier League this weekend.
Memphis has tremendous talent but his problem is he tries trickery at the highest level. It does not work. He has great pace and a ferocious shot. He will only get to the next level if he realizes that its only his pace and shot he needs to maintain and work on. He showed great skill today but at the highest level everyone has great skill so how do you overcome: by precision, power and pace tools he has and must use. So many players today have talent but do they have the mindset and will. If you ask me Messi is not fast, is small and not strong but is undoubtedly the smartest player to ever play the game. He keeps it simple and is aware of everything and he scores so much because he knows he can. Fabulous talent but great athlete not really.
