During his press conference on Monday, Ronald Koeman named Memphis as one of the players that he hopes to build his Dutch side around.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, Memphis said, “A few years ago I was not constant enough and then you could want something, but then I did not have the high level that I have now. I wanted to be decisive in every game, but I was not, in the past I often thought about too many things, I really want to show that I am in shape and strive for an even higher level.
“Of course, you always want to be decisive and also take other teammates to a higher level, I know my skills and it’s important to coordinate everything within the team. I would like to claim a leading role, take the Oranje in tow and believe also that it is possible, ”
Memphis has 38 caps for the Dutch national team so far, scoring eight times. He has ten goals and six assists in 28 league games for Lyon this season.
This worries me. Not a good move from Koeman to be saying this.
There are a bunch of exciting wingers coming through – Kluivert, Idrissi, Bergwijn – established players – Berghuis and Promes.
And he talking about building a team around an overrated player (whose ego doesn’t need any more stroking).
Very odd thing to say, especially when you consider the position he is talking about.
Whats he playing at, surely he doesnt believe this. Say it aint so Ronnie
