The former PSV star has only played two pre-season friendlies for Manchester United since his £25 million signing last month, but he is setting the bar high for his time at Old Trafford.
Memphis said at a press conference in San Jose, “I am very hungry. I want to be a legend at one time in history,
“But the important thing to do for me is to focus on the next game, not to be that far in my head because I have to do my job in every game.
“Maybe one time I can be a legend. Of course it is an honour to have that positive sound from the fans and the legends that talk about me. I am grateful for that.”
Memphis Depay then went on to praise boss Louis van Gaal, who was behind his decision to reject big money at PSG for the Premier League club.
He said on Van Gaal, “I don’t want to say he is like a father figure, but he is a great manager. He can make players better.
“I feel I will be a better player every time I train with him. I feel stronger. I feel fit. That is one of the things he can really do to you.
“Everything he tells me to do better I can take that in my mind and work on it. I am very young and I want to do everything better so I become a better player.”
