van praag knvbMichel Platini is potentially set to replace Sepp Blatter as FIFA President, and reports in Netherlands state Michael van Praag is favourite to replace the Frenchman with UEFA.

Van Praag said on the situation, ” I have deliberately not got involved with any speculation because it does not achieve anything. It is up to the national associations of UEFA to consider who they think would be the best candidate”.

”I hear that my name is also mentioned but there are also countries that do not mention my name so again it is a question of speculating and I do not wish to be a part of that”.

Van Praag also ran for the FIFA Presidency but failed to drum up enough interest particularly in the CONMEBOL ( South America ) and CONCACAF (North America ) regions in FIFA. He was particularly disappointed with the translation of the speech he gave in Paraguay at the CONMEBOL congress.

At the age of 68 , Van Praag would only be eligible to serve one potential term as UEFA President due to the UEFA rule that an incumbent President is required to stand down at 70. Van Praag has impressed his UEFA counterparts with his diplomatic personality. He certainly has a chance should he wish to run for President of UEFA.
