It seemed it would be Monaco who were heading for the quarter-finals with the French side going into half time leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Irvin Cardona and Safwan Mbae. However, at half-time Mink Peeters was introduced from the bench and the Dutchman pulled one back for Real Madrid on 54 minutes with a nice finish.

That inspired a comeback for the Spanish giants with quick-fire goals by Sergio Díaz and Dani Gómez putting them ahead. Franchu saw red for Real, but in the 90th minute Peeters netted his second to ease any fears and despite Monaco making it 4-3 late on, it proved to be nothing but a consolation.
