moyesmanJimmy Calderwood has coached Dutch clubs NEC, Go Ahead Eagles and Willem II in the past, and speaking to Voetbal International, the Scot revealed Moyes was interested in moving to Netherlands before accepting Real Sociedad’s job offer.

Calderwood said, “When his brother asked for options in the Netherlands, I was not that surprised”,

“Going from the Premier League to the Eredivisie sounds odd, but David’s focus was on the experience. He wanted to test himself in a different environment.

“In the Netherlands it was natural to him that he should be testing himself at a club that could play in the Champions League.

“And David wanted, besides the sporting aspect, to further develop as a man, with a different language and a different world view.”

Moyes accepted a role with Real Sociedad on the 10th of November, his first job since being sacked by Manchester United in April.
