veldwijk foreFollowing Guyon Fernandez’ “no” answer newly appointed boss Robert Maaskant has upped his search and has his sights on Nottingham Forest striker Lars Veldwijk. General director Graeme Rutjes confirmed that Veldwijk has been a transfer target of the Breda club, long before Maaskant’s arrival.

Veldwijk moved to Nottingham from Excelsior in the summer but has not had much game time with the Championship side.

Rutjes told BN/De Stem: “We’re followinng him and already made an enquiry a month ago. At the time he was not part of their first team. He has had plenty of game time over the festive period so that could hamper our chances of bringing him. But a striker is definitely on our wishlist.”

Rutjes denied media speculation linking his club with (loan) moves for Ajax duo Lerin Duarte and Ruben Ligeon. Both are available on loan – Duarte is up for sale too – but NAC are not after those two.

It will be a nervous transfer window for Maaskant and co. as the current squad clearly lacks the quality to escape a relegation dog fight. NAC currently sit in 17th place, six points clear off bottom side FC Dordrecht and are three points away from safety. Should they fail to beat the drop, it would be the first time NAC go down in fifteen years. They were relegated as bottom side in 1998/99 and reTurned at the first time of asking and have been in the top flight ever since.
