The Australian has been out of contract since leaving Bradford City in October, and NEC have confirmed to FOX Sports that they have offered Jones a contract. The club hope to hear back from the 33-year-old in the next week.
Jones spent nine years with Middlesbrough before joining Liverpool in 2010, but only made 27 appearances for the Premier League giants before moving to Bradford City earlier this year. His spell at Bradford City was cut short in October when Jones mutually terminated his contract.
NEC are determined to sign a goalkeeper in January, but have already seen a bid for Eiji Kawashima fail, with the Japanese stopper choosing Dundee United instead.
