Inspired by their midweek Champions League win over Celtic, Ajax started brightly and were deservedly ahead on 26 minutes, when Nicolai Boilesen’s long ball found its way to Siem de Jong who had the easiest of headed finishes at the back post.
Two minutes later it was 2-0 as Kolbeinn Sigthorsson’s shot trickled along the goal line before Boilesen tapped it in for his first goal for the club.
Just before half time it should have been 3-0 but somehow Sigthorsson put the ball wide in front of an open goal after rounding the NEC keeper.
The second half saw Ajax continue to dominate and De Jong hit the woodwork before he made it 3-0 with a nice finish from a Lasse Schone cutback.
NEC could find no way through Ajax’s defence with Joel Veltman and Jasper Cillessen both putting in impressive performances as it finished 3-0 to the visitors.
Ajax stop the rot of three league games without a win, and are now back in the top four, while NEC couldn’t build on their first win of the season last week and remain rooted to the bottom.
