NEC Nijmegen made a winning return to the Eredivisie as a late stunner from Navarone Foor saw them beat Excelsior 1-0.

The home side began with attacking intentions, but it was Excelsior who created the first real chance as Brandley Kuwas forced goalkeeper Hyannes Thór Halldórsson into a fine save. At the other end Christian Santos was the main threat for the home side, but the Venezuelen sent two headers just wide, while Anthony Limbombe also saw a free kick well saved by Filip Kurto.
The second half was an even affair without many chances for either side, but three minutes before the end Navarone Foor sent a stunning strike into the top corner from just outside the box to seal the win for the home side.
