NEC Nijmegen will return to the Eredivisie next season after they were crowned Eerste Divisie champions on Friday night.

NEC went into Friday’s matches 21 points ahead of second placed FC Eindhoven with seven matches to go, and although the title was an almost certainty, Ruud Brood’s side confirmed it with a 1-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam. Christian Santos scored the crucial goal after 49 minutes.
The title is much deserved for the Nijmegen side, who have lost only twice all season, and are currently on a 12 game winning streak.
Last season NEC Nijmegen were relegated for the first time in 20 years from the Eredivisie, after a play-off defeat to Sparta Rotterdam, but the club has bounced back at the first time of asking.
