Both sides went into the game on the back of hard nights in the KNVB Cup, with Feyenoord needing extra time to overcome Willem II, while NEC Nijmegen were stunned by amateur side HHC Hardenberg.
The form book suggested Feyenoord were in for a comfortable afternoon and after 20 minutes they had the lead when Tonny Vilhena’s free kick evaded everyone and flew into the top corner.
However NEC were constantly dangerous on the counter attack, and on the hour mark Anthony Limbombe burst into the box before setting up Janio Bikel for a tap-in. The goal stunned the away side and five minutes later NEC took the lead with Navarone Foor taking advantage of a sloppy back header by Sven van Beek before chipping the ball over Kenneth Vermeer and Limbombe ensured the ball crossed the line.
The Stadion de Goffert was bouncing and five minutes before the end Christian Santos sealed the victory from close range to end a good year for NEC with a much needed win. The three points moves NEC to 6th, while Feyenoord drop to third.
That was a big steaming pile of crap today. They looked and played like a team already on the holiday break.
If at the end of the year we are short on winning the league title, this game, Roda, and ADO are the reasons why. That is 8 points right there left on the table vs. average to bad teams.
On the plus side Woudenberg looked good for NEC and he will be back next season. Now go get Fer this winter and keep adding to the talent level!
We choked again I’m afraid Rich.
