The winger found himself in and out of Erik ten Hag’s side at the start of the season and Guangzhou Evergrande made a €50 million offer for the Brazilian in January.
Neres stayed in Amsterdam, won his place back in the Ajax line-up and was a key player on their route to the Champions League semi-finals. He is now a starter for Brazil at the Copa America.
Speaking to AD, Neres looked back on the offer from China, “They made a good offer and it was tempting, because I didn’t play everything in the first half of the season. I wondered what was best for me. If I had gone to China, things would have turned out differently.
“I didn’t want to miss the rest of the season. We then won against Real Madrid and Juventus and I now play in the national team. I think I made the right choice.”
Neres is feeling some pressure playing in the Copa America in Brazil but he is determined to win the trophy, “There is a lot of pressure on Brazil to win the Copa América. That feels tough, but we have to live with it. I have faith in our team and I know they can use me. I want to show even more in the following games so that we get what we want: the cup.”
Neres played the opening game of the tournament that saw Brazil defeat Bolivia 3-0.
