Netherlands began the Women’s European Championships with a 1-1 draw against Sweden on Saturday evening.

Netherlands Euro’s got off to a rocky start with goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal having to go off after colliding with teammates Lynn Wilms and Stefanie van der Gragt. Daphne van Domselaar replaced the experienced stopper to make only her second international appearance.

The 22-year-old was beaten after 15 minutes when Jonna Andersson tapped Sweden in front. Netherlands came close to an equaliser before the break but Daniëlle van de Donk shot over the bar.

The equaliser did come in the 52nd minute when Jill Roord fired in after good work by Vivianne Miedema. Oranje went in search of a winner but they could not find one with Roord passing up the best chance.

Netherlands take a point in the opener and they must now prepare for a clash with Portugal on Wednesday.
