Netherlands reign as European Champions is officially over after they were knocked out in the quarter-finals 1-0 by France in extra-time.

It was a minor miracle that Netherlands managed to get into the break without conceding as France dominated from the start. Stefanie van der Gragt cleared the ball off the line twice, while the post also denied the French.

Vivianne Miedema started again for the Netherlands after recovering from covid, but she was isolated up front as the Dutch struggled to create anything.

In the second half, Daphne van Domselaar was the hero for the Netherlands with a number of saves. The best of them came in stoppage time to force an extra 30 minutes.

After 100 minutes, Dominique Janssen conceded a penalty and Eve Perisset finally put France in front. There was to be no late surge from the Netherlands as France progressed to the final four.
