Netherlands went into Thursday still sitting 11th but Austria were only a few points behind.
Red Bull Salzburg’s 4-0 win over Club Brugge saw them progress to the next round of the Europa League and elevated Austria into 11th spot. Luckily for Netherlands, Rapid Vienna failed to do further damage as they were comfortably knocked out by Inter Milan.
There is still slim hope that Netherlands can reclaim 11th spot but it would require Ajax to beat Real Madrid in the Bernabeu in two weeks time.
The 11th slot in the list should be enough to earn one automatic spot in the Champions League group stages for the 2020/21 season. At the moment, Netherlands lie 12th, meaning they would get two spots in the qualifying rounds.
