Jasper Cillessen 6.5/10: Could do nothing about the France opener and made some good saves throughout the game. However, a stronger left-hand could have stopped Olivier Giroud from netting the winner. Proved why he is number one, though.

Kenny Tete 5/10: The assist for Babel put some shine on what was a very poor performance from the Lyon reserve. Couldn’t get close to the French attack at times and didn’t use the space he had to move forward. Got to wonder why Koeman picked him over Daryl Janmaat, who at least plays week in week out.

Daley Blind 5/10: Again a questionable choice by Koeman. Why is Daley Blind playing over Nathan Ake, Terence Kongolo or Patrick van Aanholt. He was poor against Peru and once again made errors against France, who had too much pace for him.

Virgil van Dijk 6/10: Struggled at times with the pace of Mbappe but made an excellent block to deny the forward in the second half. Switched off for the France winner. Would Giroud have scored if Van Dijk had his Liverpool shirt on? Still doesn’t produce his best in Oranje.

Matthijs de Ligt 7/10: Most touches of the ball for Netherlands and a 92.8% pass accuracy. Hardly put a foot wrong all game. 6 interceptions, 2 tackles and 2 clearances. Another strong performance from the 19-year-old, who grew into the game.

Frenkie de Jong 7.5/10: What a talent Netherlands have in De Jong. He proved he can do it against the World’s best. Picked up the ball and drove into space constantly. Wasn’t scared to dribble the ball and helped his team keep possession. Watching him play football is a joy!

Davy Propper 6/10: Came into the eleven after an impressive 45 minutes against Peru but struggled to impose himself in possession. Made a few decent interceptions and tackles, but needs to offer more going forward.

Georginio Wijnaldum 6.5/10: A much better performance from the Liverpool star but still not at his best. Completed 100% of his passes but had two big chances to score. Put one wide and couldn’t control another. On another day he could have been a hero.

Quincy Promes 4/10: Curled an early chance just wide but was totally at fault for the opening France goal with a terrible clearance. When Netherlands needed to be tight he gifted the opponents a goal. Didn’t do anything of note after the error too. Much more expected of him after his move to Sevilla.

Ryan Babel 6/10: Scored the equaliser but was completely invisible for the first half and much of the second. Needs to impose himself more or he will lose his place. Gave Pavard some problems near the end and the right-back was lucky not to see red.

Memphis Depay 6.5/10: A lot of effort from the forward but it wasn’t his night in Paris. Starved of service in the first half he had to drop deep to get the ball. Looked more dangerous in the second half and put a decent chance into the side netting.

Substitutes:

Daryl Janmaat: Didn’t play long enough for a rating.

Ruud Vormer: Didn’t play long enough for a rating

Luuk de Jong: Didn’t play long enough for a rating
