Louis van Gaal has revealed that some of his Netherlands players have asked him for some transfer advice ahead of the World Cup.

A number of Netherlands internationals are being linked with moves this summer as they seek regular guaranteed football.

Asked at his press conference on Monday whether transfers were being discussed in the camp, Van Gaal said, “Yes. I can simply answer that with yes. A lot. Players now come to me on their own. And that (possible transfer) was the subject of most players.”

Van Gaal admitted that playing week in and week out at club level is no longer a requirement for selection, “I already said that during the second press conference: I can no longer hold on to that vision. Look what Steven Bergwijn has accomplished, although he did not make minutes at Tottenham Hotspur. That was just a godsend. Donyell Malen got injured, which is very annoying, and then I have to call Steven and ask him if he still wanted to come. He came, he came in, he came in well and put in a fantastic run of games. In my eyes that was a godsend, because that’s what I was looking for.”

Van Gaal does give some advice and wants them playing ahead of the World Cup, “And the question is also: what is Bergwijn going to do? Will he stay with Tottenham Hotspur or will he move to a new club? Every player has his own problem and his own choice. Then they ask me what I would do, but I can’t give any guarantees, because I think they should perform. “
