Netherlands kept their chances of reaching the U17 World Cup knockout rounds alive with a 4-0 win over the USA on Saturday evening.

After defeats to both Japan and Senegal, Netherlands World Cup chances hung by a thread going into the clash with the United States.

A big win was needed to keep alive the chances of Oranje being one of the best four third placed sides.

In the first half, both sides had big chances before Sontje Hansen fired Netherlands ahead in the 42nd minute.

Ten minutes into the second half, Hansen added his second after being set-up by full-back Anass Salah-Eddine. Hansen then turned provider to set-up Mohamed Taabouni, who calmly slotted in a third.

Hansen then earned a penalty in the 78th minute, but Kenneth Taylor missed from the spot. A fourth goal still came three minutes before the end through Jayden Braaf.

Netherlands currently sit as one of the four best third placed sides. If Argentina beats Tajikstan on Sunday, Oranje have a knockout spot.
