After the 2-0 defeat to Spain last week it was crucial that Netherlands avoided defeat against the Italians to avoid exiting in the group stage.
The match was a tense affair which was finally decided by Che Nunnely who headed in the only goal of the game in theĀ 76th minute. The Ajax winger got ahead of his marker to net after Justin Kluivert’s cross was cut back into his path by Dylan Vente.
Italian striker Moise Kean was then sent off in injury time as Netherlands comfortably held on.
Netherlands will now face Serbia in the final group game on Thursday. A win would ensure the Dutch make the semi-finals.
